FABRICS

SILK

Clean and Care:

- hand washing is the most recommended method, even if the label on the garment allows washing it using the machine;

- the hand washing is done in a clean recipient where lukewarm water is added together with a soft detergent, or better yet baby shampoo;

- if there are stains, 2 table spoons of soft vinegar, or lemon juice, or even ammonia, are mixed with 2 cups of lukewarm water. Either the stained area is introduced into the mix, or it’s sprayed onto the stains, and in some situations they can be cleaned using a soft sponge together with the mix.

- during the hand wash the garment must by immersed totally in the mix of lukewarm water with soft detergent or shampoo, and it’s simply spin so that all the fibers of the clothing article will get a complete wash. Also, through delicate moves, the silk garment can be rubbed against itself in case of some minor stains. All this shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes;

- the rinsing is done in a clean recipient in which lukewarm water is added, and it’s simply repeatedly immersed till there isn’t any soapy water on it. This should be done for a couple of minutes. It’s recommend that after rinsing the garment to be rolled into a clean towel to get rid of the water excess;

- drying should be done far away from the direct sun light, the garment is put on a clothing hanger, preferably a plastic one. Thus, the garment won’t get wrinkled so ironing will not be necessary. Do not dry in the tumble dryer;

- although not recommend, ironing might be sometimes necessary. A cloth or towel is placed between the garment and the iron, which will be set on a low temperature, or if it has the options to select the fabric that is ironed, the silk mode will be set. It’s highly preferred to iron the garment turned inside out;

- bleaching and cleaning using the washing machine are not desirable because they can damage the fabric or the color;

- natural silk garments should be stored on hangers, in a cool and aired environment, away from the sun light, and under no circumstance should they be covered with plastic bags because silk needs to breathe;

WOOL

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is done with any solvent besides bleach;

- hand washing is the most recommended method, even if on the label the symbol that allows to wash the garment in the washing machine using the delicate program and a soft detergent is present;

- for hand washing, a clean recipient is used in which lukewarm water together with baby shampoo or even dish detergent are added. The garment is immersed in this mix and delicately is squeezed so that the soapy water can reach efficiently the whole clothing article. This process should take 5 minutes;

- the rinsing is made in a clean recipient in which lukewarm is added, if possible having approximately the same temperature of the water it was washed with, in order to avoid shrinkage. The wool garment is totally immersed and spinned in the water for several minutes, till the soapy water isn’t visible on the fabric anymore;

- after rinsing the garment is rolled into a clean towel so that the excess water will be absorbed, then it’s placed on a clean towel to dry. Do not hang it on a wire or hanger, and of course it shouldn’t be in the direct sun light;

- ironing should be done only when necessary and if possible, when the fabric is still a bit wet. The iron should be set on wool and between it and the garment a towel or a similar fabric should be placed. The process should be done on the inner side of the garment by pressing and not using a friction motion;

- bleaching or drying using the tumble dryer isn't allowed;

- natural wool garments should be kept in a cool and airy space, always folded and never put on a hanger. In order to keep moths away, using repelling products is strongly recommended;

CASHMERE

Clean and Care:

- using dry cleaning although recommended to remove stains, is done with any solvent besides chlorine;

- hand wash is the most adequate for cashmere, it’s done in a clean recipient or sink in which cold water is added (warm water shrinks cashmere garments) together with baby shampoo;

- during the hand wash the clothing article is pressed and squeezed gently so that the soapy water can pass efficiently through it;

- it's not recommended for the garment to be dried in the washing machine or in the tumble dryer;

- bleaching is not allowed;

- the ironing is done normal, with or without steam, at a low temperature;

COTTON

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is done with any solvent besides chlorine;

- manual wash is done with water at 30º C and normal detergent;

- when washing is done using the automatic machine, fabric softener should be added via the special compartment of the washing machine and not applied directly on the garment. The temperature should be at 30º C;

- bleaching isn’t allowed;

- drying should be done far away from the direct sunlight;

- ironing is done normal, with or without steam, at a low temperature;

 

LINEN

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is done with any solvent besides chlorine;

- hand washing is done using water at 30º C and normal detergent;

- when cleaning in the washing machine, it’s recommended to keep the garments in lukewarm water for a few minutes before putting them into the machine, in order to avoid wrinkling;

- using the washing machine is recommended because linen clothes get softer and better looking after each wash;

- bleaching isn’t allowed;

- for full white linen garments, the washing machine's temperature should be set at 65°C;

- drying is done far away from the direct sunlight, if possible avoid drying in the tumble dryer;

- ironing is done normal, with or without steam, using a lower temperature;

VELVET

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is the most recommended cleaning method for velvet and of course it should be done without chlorine;

- it’s highly recommended to avoid adding water or mechanical action while washing;

- in case that the label allows manual washing, this should be done using a soft detergent, and the garment should be turned inside out so that the surface layers won’t get rubbed between them, which could lead to possible damage;

- bleaching isn’t allowed;

- for drying it's recommended that the garment to be put on a hanger, far away from the direct sunlight;

- to avoid pilling or the used appearance, it’s recommended that the wash and dry to be done at a low temperature;

- ironing is done normal, with or without steam, at a low temperature;

BROCADE

Clean and Care:

- depending on the fiber used to weave the brocade, its cleaning can vary, but the most recommended is the dry cleaning;

- if the label allows manual wash, it can be done using cold water and a soft detergent, without applying rough movements on the fabric in order to avoid any damage;

- cleaning using the washing machine isn’t recommended;

- when ironing, the temperature is set for the fiber that composes the brocade, but in most cases, a low temperature is preferred and it’s recommended to do this after turning the garment inside out, and laying a thin towel between it and the iron;

- in order to prevent any kind of damage, drying in the tumble dryer isn’t allowed, the best way is to place the garment on a padded hanger, far away from the direct sunlight;

- bleaching is not allowed;

LACE

Clean and Care:

- hand washing is the most recommended method, using cold water and a soft detergent. Rigorous hand washing is to be avoided, and it’s best to get rid of the excess water by gentle squeezes of the garment;

- cleaning in the washing machine should be avoided, but it can be done if the garment is placed into a cloth bag and the washing program is set for delicates;

- no matter the method of cleaning, if the garment has buttons or zippers, these must be closed to avoid any damages;

- drying should be done by positioning the garment on a hanger, away from direct sunlight;

- bleaching is not allowed;

- ironing is done with or without steam, usually at a low temperature, a towel being placed on the ironing table and a canvas cloth between the iron and the garment;

- dry cleaning should be done without chlorine, water or mechanical action, but it's not recommended, especially if the lace is richly ornate;

EMBROIDERY

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is allowed only in specialized establishments;

- hand washing is the most recommended and is done by adding cold water together with a soft detergent in a clean recipient. The garment is totally immersed in this mix and it’s spin so that the soapy water can get in thorough. It should be left in the water for 10 minutes;

- cleaning in the washing machine is done only with cold water and a soft spin program, especially if there are certain decorations, these won’t get damaged;

- drying is done by rolling the garment in a towel to absorb the excess water, after which is laid on a dry towel. It shouldn’t be put on a hanger or wire and of course it should be far away from the direct sunlight;

- if chlorine is necessary only small quantities should be used;

- ironing is not recommended, being done only in necessary situations and a towel should be place between the iron and the garment. The temperature mustn’t be high and during the ironing should be done on the garment turned inside out not to damage any decorations;

- bleaching is not allowed;

MACRAME

Clean and Care:

- dry cleaning is done with any solvent, besides chlorine. There might be restrictions to adding water and rough mechanical actions;

- hand washing isn’t recommended;

- cleaning using the washing machine is done at a temperature of 30º C using a soft detergent and placing the garment in canvas bag to prevent any tear or damage;

- bleaching isn’t allowed;

- drying is done by placing the garment on a hanger, away from the direct sunlight;

- ironing is done normal, with or without steam, at a low temperature;
